Legazpi City – April 8, 2025
As part of DepEd Region V’s 2025 Gender and Development (GAD) initiatives, school heads from the Implementing Units (IUs) of Sorsogon City successfully participated in an 8-hour Gender Sensitivity training which deepened their understanding of gender concepts, highlighted DepEd’s GAD priority framework, and equipped them with tools for gender-responsive planning. As a direct outcome, participating IUs from Sorsogon City submitted revitalized GAD Plans aligned with DepEd’s thrust for inclusive and equitable education governance.

This activity brought together School Heads from the Schools Division Offices of Camarines Norte, Sorsogon Province, Sorsogon City, Legazpi City, and Ligao City. The training aimed to build a deeper understanding of gender equality issues and strengthen the integration of gender perspectives in educational leadership and school governance.
The learning engagement covered four key modules:
- Basics of Gender and Development (GAD)
- DepEd GAD Priority Framework
- GAD Planning and Budgeting
- Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG)

Designed to foster inclusive, equitable, and responsive school environments, the training set the following objectives for participants:
- Define key concepts related to Gender and Development (GAD);
- Identify major gender issues in society and education; and
- Explain the importance of gender mainstreaming in policies and programs.
The initiative reflects DepEd Region V’s strong commitment to advancing gender equality and promoting the empowerment of both learners and educators through capacity building, policy alignment, and collaborative planning.
