SORSOGON CITY March 31, 2025 In heartfelt celebration of National Women’s Month, the Schools Division Office of Sorsogon City gathered its education leaders for a Special Management Committee (ManCom) Meeting dedicated solely to honoring the impactful role of women in public service and education. Held at Mai’s Resort and Hotel, the activity served as a culminating tribute to female leadership across sectors.

The program brought together school heads, division officials, and partner agencies for a morning of recognition, reflection, and celebration of women who have significantly contributed to the empowerment of education front liners and the advancement of education in Sorsogon City.

Among the honorees were:

  • Hon. Marie Bernadette G. Escudero, 1st District Representative of Sorsogon
  • Hon. Ma. Ester E. Hamor, Mayor of the City Government of Sorsogon
  • Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, SUC President III of Sorsogon State University

  • Atty. Karla Herrera, Chair, Commission on Elections – Sorsogon City
  • Ms. Resurreccion A. Bulaong, OIC Branch Manager, GSIS Sorsogon Branch

A heartwarming highlight of the event was the serenade performed by Schools Division Superintendent William E. Gando, CESO VI, who dedicated a song to the women leaders in the division. As he sang, male school heads presented flowers and chocolates to their female counterparts, a symbolic gesture of respect and appreciation.

In his message, Superintendent Gando echoed the official celebration theme, “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas,” emphasizing the indispensable role of women in nation-building. He affirmed that the future of a stronger and more inclusive Philippines rests on empowering women in every sector, especially in education, where they serve as agents of transformation and hope.

The culminating activity not only honored outstanding women in government and partner agencies, but also reaffirmed DepEd Sorsogon City’s dedication to promoting equality, inclusivity, and empowered leadership across all schools and offices. Organized under the initiative of George D. Paguio, MT2-Division GAD Focal Person, the program reflected the Division’s broader commitment to mainstreaming Gender and Development (GAD) in education.
